Grudge or Stupidity?

Tom Dienhart at the Sporting News obviously has an ax to grind with Iowa State football. Ever since he threw every name in the book out as possible future coaches at Iowa State, except for Chizik, he's been throwin' some Hatorade our way. There are 66 BCS programs. Apparently, we hired the worst guy. Notable coaches include:

1. Pete Carroll, Southern California
2. Jim Tressel, Ohio State

-Okay, I can handle that.

3. Rich Rodriguez, West Virginia

-Stretching a little there, maybe

4. Jim Grobe, Wake Forest

-Well then, I expect Schiano soon.

5. Bob Stoops, Oklahoma

- He's good.

10. Mack Brown, Texas
11. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
12. Urban Meyer, Florida
13. Tom O'Brien, N.C. State
14. Bobby Bowden, Florida State
15. Tommy Tuberville, Auburn

-Two of these six are not like the others. Although, I suppose Iowa and NC State have had good seasons the last few years.....right? And where's my Rutgers buddy Schiano?

21. Bill Callahan, Nebraska

-Really?

27. Steve Kragthorpe, Louisville

-He's got a chance to be higher on this list sooner rather than later.

33. Greg Schiano, Rutgers

-So wait, despite all the stuff he's done at the state school of New Jersey, Greg Schiano is a middle of the pack coach? That must be why Miami didn't even try.

35. Mark Mangino, Kansas

-His fat butt couldn't climb this high up any ladder.

36. Brian Kelly, Cincinnati

-Whoops, guess we shoulda hired him, Tom.

39. Bret Bielema, Wisconsin

-Who wants ten wins a year anyways?

41. Les Miles, LSU
42. Charlie Weis, Notre Dame
43. Gary Pinkel, Missouri

-Again, one of these things is not like the others.

50. Guy Morriss, Baylor

-OK, just stop there.

59. Ted Roof, Duke
61. Jim Harbaugh, Stanford

-You're shitting me, right? These guys are better than Chizik?

66. Gene Chizik, Iowa State

-There's our guy, right behind the likes of the head coaches of Duke and Stanford. I realize he hasn't coached a game yet, but is he really automatically worse than Harbaugh?

Dienhart claims he is ranking coaches. I'm pretty sure he's taking programs into account as well. Apparently, Chizik cannot conduct a practice without repeatedly pooping himself and slinging it at his offensive and defensive coordinators, because, apparently, that's just the kind of guy he is. Here's what Dienhart had to say about Chizik in his Big XII piece.

12. Gene Chizik, Iowa State. Yeah, the Cyclones are gambling on Chizik, but it's a gamble worth taking. He has the background and pedigree that point toward success. But building good defenses at Auburn and Texas is much easier than building a good program at Iowa State, which is one of the most difficult BCS jobs. Is Chizik equipped to work in less-than-ideal circumstances?

Apparently, Gene wasn't aware we're not historically good at football when he took the job. It really makes no sense to get riled up over this, but how can Chizik possibly be the worst head coach when he has never coached a game? Hold him off to the side or something. I realize someone had to be last, but grace that spot with someone we know sucks balls, like anyone who coaches at Duke.

Ever since he reported we were going to have Harbaugh, or Norvell, or Kelly, or whoever the heck else, and we got Gene, he's been Maybe we shoulda hired who he told us to.

I was reading BurntOrangeNation, like I usually do, and I came across this:

Speaking of the conference, an imbecil on TexAgs proposes that the Aggies join the SEC. The usual hilarity ensues, though there are some smart Agros that step up to make rational points (against such a bad idea). Nonetheless, if you need a fun way to kill five minutes of your day and want a good laugh, well, here you go.

(A thought just occurred to me: as little news there is during the offseason, I think adding a "Hilarious TexAgs Thread Of The Day" may be something we throw in to the regular agenda.)

I clicked through to the thread in question. Apparently, if some Aggie fans can't move to the SEC, they wan't some changes made to the Big 12, notably dropping Baylor and/or ISU.

Baylor/Colorado/Iowa State should not be in the big XII. I think baylor should have been in either the mountain west with TCU or in CUSA with UH and Rice. Colorado and Iowa State while in the big 8 before the merger has just always seemed "out of place" imo.

we're fine where we are - i would like to see Arkansas in the Big XII though - would be great to see them replace ISU, i would say Baylor but at least they actually compete in all the major sports

The Big XII was a dumb idea. From a money point it was brilliant, but I'm not a fan of the Big XII.

Would much rather be in the SEC playing Ark and LSU every single season.

I have no interest in traveling to Ames, Iowa or Lubbock, Tx for sporting events

CU makes a lot more sense in the Big 12 than Iowa State. CU has been a powerhouse in football and they have the money to pour into it, even if they aren't really showing up right now. They'll be resurgent. ISU hasn't and won't.

There's more than that, but I chose to cap it off there. Click through if you want to see more posts saying we should get cut from the Big 12.

I've always been a fan of the old Big 8. There's always been respect from the other schools...respecting the right to exist and what not. For whatever reason, though, of the four schools that were added to make the Big 12, aTm has been the dick in all of it.

I'm declaring them our official enemy in the South. Who's with me?
